Debreceni Sportcentrum Szolgáltató Közhasznú Társaság (Debrecen Sports Center Providing Public Benefit Company), founded in 2000 as an organization owned by the city of Debrecen, was created in order to play a more active role in the regional and national sports world through the complex management of the city's sports facilities.
Oláh Gábor Street Sports Complex (Gyulai István athletic stadium, 1000-seat Sports Hall, natural grass and artificial turf football fields, 10 000-seat football stadium) together with Debrecen Competition Swimming Pool, Debrecen Ice Rink (Halls I and II), Sport Hotel*** superior and Főnix Hall, the country's second largest multifunctional arena, constitute a facility portfolio that is unique on the national scene.
Since 2001, Debrecen Sports Center has organized more than two dozens of world competitions in nearly twenty sports. It can be said without immodesty that it has earned numerous professional acknowledgements through organizing and holding them without problem. Among others, the World Youth Championship in Athletics, the World Gymnastic Championship, the 1st European Men’s and Women’s Individual Gymnastics Championship, the 6th European Women’s Handball Championship, the European Short Course Swimming Championship, the European Pentathlon Championship, the World Short Track Speed Skating Championship were huge successes, nationally and internationally, as well.
